Meet Jorge Ludwig
Jorge at Day of the Horse 2011
Jorge Ludwig, owner and director of Ludwig Stables, has been working with horses his entire life. He conducts clinics, trains and competes in shows throughout the United States and South America. His focus is on show jumping with several horses going on to compete in the hunter and eventing worlds.
Jorge was born in Chile and raised on a working horse ranch south of Santiago. Drawing on this lifetime of experience, he is known as being a true horseman. Throughout his years on his 6,000 acre family ranch he was involved in all aspects of ranch life: breeding operations, breaking & training young horses, and sales along with a wide range of work with several breeds of livestock. His childhood was spent riding and working with all levels of horses taking them from just being ranch horses to competing with them. This gave Jorge the "no-nonsense approach" to training and developed his belief in the importance of a well-rounded horse.
He was born into family who enjoyed competitive showing and was active in the Orsono Riding Club. In addition, he competed extensively throughout his academic years and was a member of the Chilean equestrian team in the 1980s thru 1990’s, competing throughout South America. He also helped to found the equestrian program for his university in Valdivia, Chile. His years riding with his military academy gave him a strong foundation as he rode under the instruction of top competitive international riders including Olympic medalists in Jumping and Dressage – one of which was the Guinness world high jump record holder Alberto Larraguibel. Throughout his life, he has competed throughout South America under the Chilean flag and has returned numerous times to Lima, Peru and Bogata, Columbia as a clinician.
Jorge graduated from the Institute of Agriculture in Osorno, Chile in 1977 and received a Scholarship to the University of California at Berkley agricultural exchange program in 1978. Since 1979 he has operated a training and breeding business in Southern California outside of Los Angeles in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area. He also travels to other barns as a consultant and rider/trainer as well as conducts jumping clinics in the Southeastern United States.
His work with young horses, bringing them from a foal or from a young age to a competitive skilled horse is one of his specialties and something he enjoys greatly. Recognizing and developing talented horses then matching them with the right people is a main focus in his training program. Sharing knowledge is a passion, whether it is helping someone with a young horse, a difficult horse or someone who wants to improve his or her riding skills.
He truly enjoys working with riders of all ages and expertise: from children to amateurs and even other trainers. Working with horses or people who show potential and interest is a key part of what Jorge does best. Sharing his lifelong knowledge of horses is an everyday part of life when working with him. His students: Children, Adult Amateurs and Juniors consistently bring home top ribbons, winning Championships and Classics regularly.
A lifelong competitor himself, Jorge brings a wide range of experience, both National and International to his training program. He competes at all levels: training his own young horses as well as clients' horses – all the way to the Grand Prix level.

A few words ...
I have had the pleasure to have been a friend of Jorge for over 10 years.
Jorge is a true horseman and I have always had great respect for Jorge him. They are hard to come by these days and recently Jorge has been helping me bringing my young jumper stallion along with great success.
Jorge’s training approach and analyzing of each horse’ strengths and weakness is a huge advantage for both rider and horse and I can recommend Jorge highly as a coach who will improve horse and rider in a non-forcing way.

Jorge Ludwig is a consummate gentleman and horseman. His patience and compassion for all horses, but young horses in particular, allows him to establish a beautiful working relationship with them. Horses love Jorge and they trust him. He's also great at helping his human students develop their own horsemanship and skills, keeping the safety and happiness of the horse at the forefront always. It's an honor to work with and learn from Jorge.
…I’ve always loved Lisa Dunn’s (Hanoverian) babies but this one is something special. Ravinnia is my little Ferrari and I love it. These past few weeks being able to clinic with Jorge Ludwig have been the absolute best…..Spending 2 weeks clinching with Jorge Ludwig has been the best and this mare has skyrocketed! She’s a chestnut so she’s a little spicier but Jorge has helped us harness that spice and put it to good use. Kelsey Bengochea |
